There is a significant increase of .al domains number after the changes of 2010 on:

• Decrease of annual registration fee for domain names in “.al” zone and subdomains “.com.al”, “.org.al”, “.net.al”, from $ 75 US for every two years, to 2000 ALL for every two years
• Inclusion of the category “natural persons” (individuals) into the category of entities having the right to register a domain name in .al zone.  

The significant decrease of annual fee for registration of domains and sub domains in “.al” zone results in Albania being listed among the countries with the lowest annual fee for domains in a year.

While the removal of restriction for the right to register a domain and sub domain in “.al” zone, thus responding with concrete measures to the increasing interest of the Albanian society for this service, for the category of “natural persons” residing in the Republic of Albania and “natural persons” with Albanian citizenship and/or nationality living outside the Republic of Albania, has substantially expanded the categories of entities that have registered domains under .al.

Due to the acceleration of procedures to register, the number of domains has reached about 8000 in total by the end of 2011 compared to 4800 resulting by the end of 2010.  

Meanwhile, since 1995 when the registration service first opened until 2009 this number was only 2800.
